Baseflow is a safe and easy-to-use platform for moving your residency. By removing lengthy paperwork, legal complexity, and numerous fees, Baseflow helps you become a legal resident in tax and remote-friendly countries, like Portugal 🇵🇹
Portugal is still recovering from the 2008 Financial Crisis and has a shrinking population with a massive brain drain.
That's why the Portuguese government is offering tax incentives to attract highly skilled remote workers to live, work and spend money there.
With Baseflow, you will change your legal residency within days, instead of weeks. We help with all the paperwork.
The eligibility requirements to move to Portugal are clear and straightforward. Just make sure:
As an EU citizen, our goal is to have you registered as a legal and tax resident in Portugal within a few days.
As a non-EU citizen, the process might take longer (sometimes some months) depending on the processing time from the Portuguese Embassy where you apply for your visa.
As a citizen of the USA, your worldwide income is subject to US income tax, regardless of where you live, as per the nationality principle. Although there is a ~$108,700/y exclusion if you're outside US for 330 days per year, you'll always have to pay tax in US over any amount above that.

No, the process is 99% digital.
If you're an EU citizen, the only step you will need to do in person is to go to the city hall to receive your residency certificate. You must do this in person as the Portuguese government needs to see that you are a real, alive person in Portuguese territory.
If you're a non-EU citizen, in addition to the step explained above, you will first go to your local Portuguese Embassy to get your visa approved to enter the country.
If you decide not to change your legal and tax residency to Portugal, or if the process is unsuccessful due to reasons beyond our control at Baseflow, we can offer you a partial refund. The exact amount of the refund will be determined and calculated by Baseflow. If you have any questions about the terms of the refund, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Yes, you can apply for other types of visas, like the D7 Visa or the Golden Visa, if they suit your situation. However, note that Baseflow is purposefully built for remote workers and digital nomads, so the support we might provide when applying for different types of visas will be limited.
If you decide to apply for any of the other types of visas, like the D7 Visa or the Golden Visa, we recommend you check the requirements of those visas to see if what Baseflow provides is a good fit for you.
Baseflow isn’t a legal or accounting firm and can’t provide tax or accounting advice.
You should consult legal and tax professionals for advice on how to meet ongoing obligations that apply to you.
You can still use Baseflow to have all your documents in one place and manage compliance.
If you have already started the process, please contact us and a member of our sales team will happily onboard you to a custom solution.
If you're an EU citizen, the entire process can be done as fast as 3 days. This will depend on when do you choose your appointment to go to the city hall to get your certificate of residency.
If you're not an EU citizen, the process might take longer (sometimes some months) depending on the processing time from the Portuguese Embassy where you apply for your visa.
You can apply now to not lose your access, and just indicate in the application your desired date to move. We're still scaling up the platform and might need to close sign ups in the future.
