No, the process is 99% digital.
If you're an EU citizen, the only step you will need to do in person is to go to the city hall to receive your residency certificate. You must do this in person as the Portuguese government needs to see that you are a real, alive person in Portuguese territory.
If you're a non-EU citizen, in addition to the step explained above, you will first go to your local Portuguese Embassy to get your visa approved to enter the country.
If you decide not to change your legal and tax residency to Portugal, or if the process is unsuccessful due to reasons beyond our control at Baseflow, we can offer you a partial refund. The exact amount of the refund will be determined and calculated by Baseflow. If you have any questions about the terms of the refund, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
To be eligible for NHR benefits, you can't have been a Portuguese resident in or after 2017, nor actively hold a prominent political position. In addition, the Portuguese government requires you have a high skilled job in the list below to be eligible for NHR benefits (2020 amendment):
7 – Skilled workers in industry and construction and handicraftsmen, including in particular skilled workers in metallurgy, metallo-mechanics, food processing, wood and clothing, in craftsmanship, in printing, manufacturing precision instruments, jewelers, crafts-men, electricity and electronics workers.

Yes, you can apply for other types of visas, like the D7 Visa or the Golden Visa, if they suit your situation. However, note that Baseflow is purposefully built for remote workers and digital nomads, so the support we might provide when applying for different types of visas will be limited.

If you're an EU citizen, the entire process can be done as fast as 3 days. This will depend on when do you choose your appointment to go to the city hall to get your certificate of residency.
If you're not an EU citizen, the process might take longer (sometimes some months) depending on the processing time from the Portuguese Embassy where you apply for your visa.
